WHERE CAN I GET THE E-MAIL ADDRESSES FOR THE MEDIA?

This is the question asked most frequently of Internet Marketing specialists. While an exploding number of media outlets are going on-line, their e-mail addresses are difficult and time-consuming to track down.

Every six months (January and June) we do a complete survey of all media outlets. We just went through a stringent data validation process which analyzed more than 15,000 media e-mail listings. We made more than 4,000 revisions, which took a little time to go through (Ha!). Along the way, we verified every address, updated it and eliminated duplicates.

In general, we observed that the preferred e-mail address and contact provided us in response to our validation request was a top-level decision-maker (Managing or Feature Editor).

Between major updates, we maintain database quality through online web forms where media personnel can post add and update their own listings, by daily revisions received directly from contacts via e-mail, and through ongoing campaigns we conduct for clients, by which means we learn of required revisions. These client mailings occur frequently and help fine-tune the accuracy and freshness of our lists between scheduled major semi-annual surveys.
